Usonian Bathroom Renovation
Rush Creek Village is unlike anywhere else in Worthington. Tucked quietly into the landscape, it is a neighborhood of Usonian homes - designed in the tradition of Frank Lloyd Wright, with the horizontal lines, natural materials, and organic relationship to site that define his vision of American domestic architecture. These are not ordinary homes. They are considered historically significant and deeply personal to the people who live in them.
When the owners of this Rush Creek Village home came to Curate Interiors, they needed both bathrooms fully renovated. But this was not simply a question of new tile and fixtures. Every decision had to be made in dialogue with the home itself - with its architectural language, its material palette, its sense of shelter and proportion. Updating a Usonian home means understanding what makes it irreplaceable and designing with that knowledge as your starting point.
Kathleen took on the full scope: architectural drawings, room plans, and every material and finish selection. The challenge was dual - optimizing the functional usability of both spaces while maintaining absolute fidelity to the Usonian aesthetic. New materials had to feel as though they had always belonged. Modern fixtures had to earn their place in rooms designed around a philosophy that predated them by decades.
The result is two bathrooms that are completely current in their function and entirely coherent with the spirit of the home. Nothing jars. Nothing announces itself as new. The renovation recedes into the architecture the way the best design always does - by making the home feel more like itself, not less.
The clients said it best: "Kathleen created functional, modern bathrooms that blend seamlessly with the overall aesthetic. She was highly responsive, easy to work with, and attentive to our needs throughout the process. We could not be happier with the results or the experience."
