MCM Bathroom Renovation

There are homes that ask something of you as a designer. This is one of them.

Nestled in Medick Estates in Worthington, Ohio, this Usonian home carries the unmistakable DNA of Frank Lloyd Wright's vision - horizontal lines, natural materials, an architecture that feels grown from the earth rather than placed upon it. When the owners came to Curate Interiors for a full bathroom renovation, the mandate was clear: honor the home. Do not decorate it. Do not modernize it into something unrecognizable. Understand it - and then make it better.

That kind of design restraint is actually harder than starting from scratch. Every material had to earn its place in dialogue with the architecture. Every finish had to feel inevitable, not imposed.

The bold decision was the red tile. Deep, saturated crimson running the full height of the shower wall - dramatic, yes, but not arbitrary. Red is deeply embedded in the MCM design tradition, a nod to the era's willingness to use color with conviction. Paired with warm walnut cabinetry and terrazzo flooring, the red recedes from statement into something more considered: a palette that feels simultaneously true to the home's heritage and entirely fresh. Brushed brass fixtures complete the picture - warm, clean-lined, and quietly luxurious without competing with the architecture.
